Pyrosilviculture: Modelling, implementation and monitoring of treatments
for adaptive forest management in the face of fire
Professor Alexis Achim's research team at Université Laval is seeking highly motivated candidates for three master's projects in the field of pyrosilviculture. These projects are part of a pan-Canadian research initiative aimed at developing adaptive forest management strategies to cope with the growing risk of forest fires exacerbated by climate change.
Research Topics

Assesment : Modeling fuel parameters simulation of the effects of pyrosilvicultural treatments and analysis of economic impacts.

Implementation : Field implementation and evaluation of pyrosilvicultural treatments at demonstration sites in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia, in collaboration with local communities and First Nations.

Monitoring : Long-term monitoring of the effects of pyrosilvicultural treatments on forest structure and composition, as well as the development of methods for continuously updating fuel inventories.
Required Profile

Bachelor's degree in forestry, biology, geography, or related discipline.

Strong interest in forest fire management ecology and/or silviculture.

Experience with GIS, remote sensing and/or statistical analysis
(an asset). -
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Excellent oral and written communication skills
(French essential, English an asset). -
Availability for field work.

Financement
Scholarship or salary of $25,000 per year for two years, with the possibility of a supplement for a named scholarships. Possibility of applying for additional scholarships and teaching participation.
